About

WHO AM I?!?!

I’m Herbert, a 25 year old first-generation Chinese American living out the salaryman’s life in Irvine, California. However, I’m from the Bay Area up in Northern California. I was born in San Jose, lived there a few years, then moved to Pleasanton in the East Bay.

I graduated from UC Irvine with a degree in Economics and a minor in Political Science. It was really a fallback major, but a lot of issues these days revolve around economics of money and what not. I guess it was a good background to have.

SPARTAN! WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION?!

I currently work at UC Irvine Housing as an IT Coordinator. The title sounds rather fancy, but it’s basically help desk and server administrator. It’s grunt work, but I help keep a multi-million dollar operation going.

I also get to drive a golf cart around too. Whiptastic handling!

Online, I’m a news poster and forum moderator for Relicnews. I get report on news from Relic Entertainment, a Vancouver-based game company. In addition (when I have time), I moderate our forums to maintain order and peace.

Personal Things

I had a pretty strong musical background growing up. I don’t run under the stereotype that Asian parents forced their children to pick up a violin or piano. I was classically trained in piano for about 10 years. I used to do a lot of crazy examinations for the Music Guild of America. After for doing it about 4 years (while kicking ass at it), I started losing interest in that manly because I had other things to focus on when I grew older. Well that and got tired of trying to memorize 5 songs for the exams.

Besides piano, I picked up the saxophone in the 5th grade. From there, it evolved to playing the tenor and the baritone sax. The Baritone sax was probably my favorite instrument out of the saxophone family by the time I finished high school. I self-taught myself on the saxophone (with some help from my band instructors). I also have some classically/jazz-trained friends who gave me adviced as well. I also picked up the Baritone(brass instrument) in my spare time.

I would like to pick up violin as well. I’m pretty sure I can self-teach myself that one but it completely different from all the brass and woodwind instruments I’ve played.

I’m also a big computer person as well. It is probably the reason why I currently have my job at UCI.

I’m a huge gamer.

I enjoy cooking a lot. It is probably the only cultural attachment I have to my Chinese heritage since I don’t really know too much about what we celebrate besides Chinese New Year/Lunar/Mid-Autumn/etc. It’s kinda depressing hearing my friend, who is 3rd generation Chinese, dislike asian food in general. I’ll make it an effort to maintain that attachment down my bloodline.

Besides Chinese food, I like making pizza(*hugs pizza stone) from scratch.

I also have my friends to help maintain my sanity. I have a few that probably influence the way I am now, but I’m not going to name her name. She might read this… >_>

Speaking of friends, I have a habit of meeting friends from online in real life. I’ve done it locally as well as internationally.

Recently started to collect and shoot firearms. It’s a nice hobby that I enjoy and it gets me outdoors a lot. It helps a lot too when I have 20/10 vision. I collect a wide range of firearms from modern and classical pistols and rifles.

I would say my favorite gun is my first one, a mismatched Mauser Broomhandle.
